I am so blessed to be the literacy coach at Issaquah Valley and Newcastle elementary! This ever changing role allows me to learn along side, grow, and reflect with my colleagues in ways that I was never able to working in a classroom alone. Teaching continues to evolve and the students we serve change every day. It is a privilege to support my peers in this amazing profession and be blessed to work with children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The children are truly the greatest reward of the work!
Just like many of you, I work hard to balance my passion for my work with my own amazing family. My husband and I have a son, Cameron, who entered kindergarten this year and a daughter, Payton, who is three. They are everything to my husband and I as you can imagine. We love boating, jet skiing, surfing, biking, and snow skiing as a family. In other words.. we work hard so we can play hard.
With my son entering kindergarten, in a school other than those I work in, I have found myself on the parent side of the fence. Being a classroom teacher for 7 years, I worked diligently to do everything in my power to connect and involve the families of my students. I strived to make sure that they were as informed as I was regarding their child's social, emotional, and academic strengths and goals we were working on in the classroom. It was tough work... and yes, some weeks of communication were better than others for me and my families I served. However, I feel now, just as I felt then, the importance of partnering with families in any way, shape or form, I can is critical to the success of a child. This is what I wish for my own child and in turn for yours.
Please know that I am not only a resource for staff and children, but for the families that trust in our work each and every day!
